UPS Planning Services Senior Analyst in Alpharetta, Georgia

Job Summary

The Planning Services Senior Analyst takes a lead role within the Planning Services team to support Air, Ocean and Surface network planning strategies. He/She is responsible for managing strategic relationships within the enterprise relating to ongoing, multi-year programs relevant to a business unit's transportation network. The Planning Services Senior Analyst deploys and uses decision support tools by leveraging advanced problem solving techniques and technology to provide thought leadership for improved network effectiveness across multiple phases. This position leads complex process development or improvement and involvement in strategic communication with stakeholders. The Planning Services Senior Analyst develops and enhances complex models and processes supporting UPS corporate vision to reduce transportation network cost, increase network efficiency and grow profitable revenue.

The Planning Services Senior Analyst also identifies data requirements for project scope to determine project responsibilities, teammates, customers and researches background information to create project baselines used for identifying initial steps and project outcomes. He/She communicates process changes to UPS stakeholders to maintain a consistent, global understanding of plan changes within the organization. Analyzes optimization-modeling needs to determine data necessary to feed models and creates draft data models to meet the needs of optimization tools. The Planning Services Senior Analyst also identifies areas of improvement that have a high impact on the forecast process to direct development efforts to the proper areas, in addition to evaluating and critiquing the current forecasting process to ascertain methods for improving the process.

Other Duties

  • Defines and develops required planner toolsets to strategically align data with planning processes.

  • Ensures processes are documented in proper formation to share, improve, and duplicate processes over time.

  • Performs gap analysis of data models to verify all optimization data needs are met and analyzes optimization-modeling needs to determine data necessary to feed models.

  • Provides guidance and direction in the definition and execution of mathematical models used in simulation and optimization.

  • Finalizes data sets for optimization tools to deliver complete sets of data optimization tools

  • Applying simulation techniques and developing simulation models for business problems

  • Communicates data to team and UPS stakeholders to ensure business units are met.

  • Acts as liaison to UPS functional groups to coordinate key issues in transportation network plans.

  • Examines solutions to align UPS visions with business unit needs and to determine best resolutions for transportation plan implementations.

  • Resolves conflicts and clarifies communications with UPS stakeholders to maintain program alignment with corporate goals.

  • Technology Knowledge: Leverages technological knowledge to achieve business objectives; resolves technological issues impeding work; adapts technological information, facts, or data to varying situations or groups; recommends changes to technological approach based upon knowledge of trends and best practices.

  • Work Methods, Processes: Flows Analysis: Independently conducts standard analyses to identify problems in methods, processes, or workflow; interprets results of analyses; recommends solutions to address identified requirements, problems, or inefficiencies.

  • Work Methods, Processes, Flows Design: Identifies common problems with current work designs; specifies requirements for new work designs; modifies or adjusts existing work methods, processes, and flows to resolve operations failures.

Minimum Qualifiers

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Operations Research - Preferred

  • Master’s degree in Engineering or Operations Research – Preferred

  • Experience applying simulation techniques to business problems – Preferred

  • Experience developing simulation models for business problems – Preferred

  • Experience with SQL or equivalent database query language – Preferred

  • Experience writing and debugging one or more Object Oriented Programming Languages (Python, C#, C+, C++, Java) – Preferred

  • Experience working in transportation logistics - Preferred
