UPS Federal Tax Specialist in Atlanta, Georgia

Job Summary

The Federal Tax Specialist prepares the U.S. corporate tax returns and assists in other tax compliance matters such as Department of Treasury inquiries, consolidated return elections, and disclosures. He/She does tax accounting work such as calculating the federal quarterly provision for assigned items. This position prepares tax research memos as directed to support tax return positions. The Federal Tax Specialist prepares other miscellaneous tax returns such as Form 720/990/1065/1041. He/She works under the supervision of the Tax Supervisor.

Other Duties

  • Assists in the consolidation of the US corporate tax return.

  • Performs return to provision reconciliation.

  • Analyzes journal entries for proper tax treatment whether temporary or permanent and prepares deferred proof reconciliations.

  • Cross assignment also includes preparing state tax returns.

  • Assists in gathering information for issued IRS Information Document Requests (IDRs).

  • Researches tax law to craft discussion and conclusion in a Tax Research Memo.

Preferred Competencies

  • Accounting Knowledge: Demonstrates basic knowledge of accounting theory and principles.

Minimum Qualifiers

  • Previous Federal or State Income Tax compliance experience for large multinational corporations– Preferred

  • Advanced proficiency with Excel and Access (e.g., utilizing formulas, pivot tables, creating queries, etc.) - Preferred
