UPS State & Local Tax Supervisor in Atlanta, Georgia
The State and Local Tax (SALT) Compliance Supervisor is the primary return preparer of state and local corporate income tax returns of
moderate complexity. He/She ensures state qualifications are maintained and conducts tax research. This position supervises and develops others within the department.
The SALT Compliance Supervisor prepares and reviews state and local income tax returns using OneSource tax software. He/She performs tax
research and planning to compose tax memos to substantiate return and audit positions. This position prepares and documents information requests for state tax audits. The SALT Compliance Supervisor monitors filing of annual reports to ensure company remains qualified for conducting business in various states.
Researches notices and follows up on refunds to ensure notices are sustained or reversed and to account for refund checks
Reviews work papers to ensure accuracy, identify possible offset and exposure and make necessary adjustments
Examines proposed state tax legislation and quantifies tax impact
Processes tax payments and deposits refund checks to ensure payments/refunds are coded to proper general ledger accounts
Analyzes tax return preparation information submitted by internal providers and follows up with questions for clarification and details
Reviews methods for collection of data for filing returns to make recommendations for a more effective collection process
Interacts with auditors during audit process to explain UPS's tax position
Attends continuing education events for self-development
Accounting Knowledge: Applies standard GAAP methods; makes recommendations to improve practices or procedures in compliance with GAAP.
Conducts Research: Identifies the business problem that requires research; identifies sources of information that are relevant to a problem; reviews literature and data related to the research question; summarizes information from data sources.
Finance Knowledge: Accurately reads and interprets financial reports and statements; demonstrates an understanding of relevant financial measures, revenue and cost drivers; applies financial analysis to recommend solutions that support business objectives.
Certified Public Accountant – Preferred
Master’s degree – Tax or Accounting – Preferred
At least 2 years of experience in public accounting or corporate tax - Preferred
Experience using OneSource – Preferred
