The Operations Competency Lead is responsible for analyzing customer data to design and develop supply chain solutions for meeting customers' needs. He/She supports Business Development (BD) by visiting customer sites and presenting solutions. This position coordinates communications among project and solutions' groups, ensures accuracy of customer solutions' models, designs solutions, and develops and analyzes cost and optimization models by identifying customer business requirements, value propositions, workflows, and processes. The Operations Competency Lead recommends alternative strategies and adjustments, assesses the impact of solutions on operations, and uses modeling software to develop cost-effective alternatives to meet customer requirements and internal business goals. This position provides project management support (e.g., implementation and work plan development, required changes, project progress, etc.) and interacts with BD managers, project managers, and other solutions teams.
The Operations Competency Lead assists with communicating complex logistics' solutions to customers and sales teams. He/She contributes to project debriefs to identify best practices, process improvements, and repeatable business models and to assist with development of industry-specific solutions' tools. This position assists with data calculations and design criteria for input into transportation analysis tools to optimize transportation network and recommend alternative strategies and design model adjustments. The Operations Competency Lead interprets optimization tool output to recommend alternative strategies and model adjustments for constructing solution outputs (e.g., maps, charts, graphics, activity reports for costing, etc.). He/She assists with managing projects to stay informed of project status, escalate non-project management issues, and provide project performance feedback to department staff.
Assists with pricing assumptions, statements of work, proposals, and contracts to ensure proposals, reports, and project documents are clear, accurate, and appropriate.
Develops industry solutions' models expertise to ensure input accuracy and solution appropriateness and to evaluate model results for better responses to customers' requirements.
Summarizes costs of customers' solutions and risks and verifies customer data assumptions and design criteria to develop optimal solution recommendations.
Assists with developing data calculations and cost model design criteria to create and execute solutions' cost model inputs.
Interprets cost model output and recommends adjustments to model output to ensure alignment with customer business requirements and internal capabilities and business goals.
Assists project managers and BD to track changes in project scope, develop statements of work and project plans, and prepare change orders.
Assesses Business Needs: Identifies current and future needs of the customer or business; understands how business needs dictate the project’s requirements, project direction, business objectives, and resource allocation; makes recommendations on the solutions-design phase of the project.
Freight Forwarding Operations Knowledge: Demonstrates a detailed understanding of processes, procedures, and technology for intermodal transportation; identifies root causes of recurring issues within freight forwarding operations; describes the general structure of freight forwarding operations.
Project Management: Demonstrates understanding of implementation objectives, project plan, and one's role within a project; participates in the implementation of a project; provides timely, thorough, and concise updates for area of responsibility; identifies areas of risk and properly communicates them to the project manager.
Technology Knowledge: Recognizes the basic impact of technology on UPS business, services, and processes; identifies technological barriers in achieving desired objectives; maintains appropriate breadth and depth of technological knowledge for current work assignment.
Work Methods, Processes, Flows Analysis: Describes the general impact of requirements, problems, or inefficiencies on other parts of the operation or processes; conducts basic analyses and identifies issues impacting the accuracy of data analysis.
Work Methods, Processes, Flows Design: Identifies common problems with current work designs; specifies requirements for new work designs; modifies or adjusts existing work methods, processes, and flows to resolve operations failures.
- Bachelor's Degree (or internationally comparable degree) in Industrial Engineering or Transportation – Preferred
