UPS Center Freight Ops Supervisor II in La Vergne, Tennessee

The Center Freight Operations Supervisor II coordinates inbound and outbound UPS Freight Forwarding (FF) shipments. He/She coordinates freight inspections and buildups for deliveries, assigns deliveries, and dispatches drivers. This position reviews shipment documents (i.e., manifests) to ensure procedures and compliance requirements are met. He/She conducts driver and dockworker training to ensure safe methods are taught and utilized. This position ensures freight operations comply with governmental regulations and UPS policies and procedures.

The Center Freight Operations Supervisor II monitors and reviews pickup and delivery status and interacts with customers to address delays and service failures. This position maintains training records and shipment status information in the FF systems. The Center Freight Operations Supervisor II is responsible for a greater scope of work (e.g., additional departments, number of direct reports, greater revenue, larger volume, etc.). This position supervises hourly employees and specialists within the department.

Other Duties

  • Reviews and inspects inbound freight shipment arrivals to ensure proper documentation is in place, service center space is available, and dock worker staff requirements are met.

  • Identifies inbound freight shipments requiring special handling (e.g., dangerous and hazardous materials, etc.) to ensure compliance and established procedures are followed.

  • Conducts and oversees freight sorts to identify special handling (i.e., hot freight) requirements and to process damaged freight.

  • Reviews international inbound shipments to ensure clearance is obtained and compliance requirements are met.

  • Conducts and oversees freight buildups to load aircraft freight containers for international outbound shipments and load trucks for service center deliveries.

  • Monitors freight volumes loaded for deliveries and pickups to ensure customer expectations and service standards are met.

  • Reviews and analyzes driver route maps to recommend and implement route structure improvements and to increase productivity.

  • Reviews pickups and deliveries previously scheduled to determine freight size and weight and coordinate special equipment needs.

  • Interacts with cartage carrier vendors to arrange freight pickups and deliveries when UPS drivers and equipment are not available.

  • Monitors freight pickup and delivery confirmations to ensure delivery performance and to resolve issues and delays.

Basic Qualifications

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National of the U.S., an alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. for this employer

  • Employer will not sponsor visas for this or future positions

  • Must be currently in the same geographic location as the job or willing to relocate yourself there

  • Must be willing to work flexible shift hours and occasional weekends

  • Must have experience demonstrating Transportation industry regulation knowledge (e.g., TSA, OSHA, DOT)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree – Supply Chain Management, Logistics Management, or International Management – Preferred

  • Experience with operations management – Preferred

  • Experience supervising union employees – Preferred

  • Experience with Microsoft Office or equivalent software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) – Preferred
