Job Summary

The Local Sort Supervisor oversees the processing of outbound parcels at the company’s package center facilities. He/she conducts pre-operation checks, manages sorting and loading operations, and performs post-operation functions. The Local Sort Supervisor ensures outbound packages are processed, loaded, and leave the building on time. This position supervises part-time supervisors, administrative staff, loaders, and sorters.

This position has overall responsibility for monitoring daily package center operations. As part of daily pre-operations, the Local Sort Supervisor performs initial yard and equipment checks, reviews the daily operating plan and exception reports, and conducts pre-sort meetings. During sorting and loading activities, this individual ensures operational safety, proper package care, service and quality levels. The Local Sort Supervisor validates correct package processes and exception corrections, verifies that trailers are properly loaded and sealed and that all dispatch paperwork is in order. Post-operation tasks include ensuring that trailers are completely unloaded, preparing nightly reports, uploading scanner data and resetting scanner equipment.

  • Ensure implementation and maintenance of a Comprehensive Health and Safety Plan

  • Conduct risk management and safety compliance audits

  • Maintain employee safety training and certifications

  • Determine employee training needs to produce continuous development plans

  • Provide feedback and support

  • Conduct performance evaluations and resolve individual and group performance issues

  • Support a collaborative work environment through continuous communication and relationship building
