UPS Data Repository Analyst in Mahwah, New Jersey

Job Summary

The Data Repository Analyst is responsible for working closely with corporate sponsors (e.g., Sales, Marketing, Industrial Engineering, Package Process Management, Operations, Revenue Management, F&A, Customer Technology, etc.) and data source application teams to provide enterprise-wide data integration for the purposes of providing business intelligence through analysis and reporting. He/She determines business impacts and communicates business requirements to repository Information Systems (I.S.) teams. This position collects, analyzes, communicates, and reviews business needs. The Data Repository Analyst interacts with users to provide support, facilitate user training sessions, and support repository development. This position reports to the Data Repository Manager.

The Data Repository Analyst works with various business functions to understand the business needs for analysis and reporting relative to UPS data. He/She works with the source application to understand data structure, definition, use, and meaning, using that information to develop and document repository requirements. This position works with source application representatives to create code and decode tables for data integrity.

Other Duties

  • Presents business requirements to the appropriate I.S. team.

  • Analyzes Business Intelligence application performance to provide direction and understanding for future data integration.

  • Participates in functional design ensuring the proposed solution meets the goals and objectives of the requirements.

  • Provides virtual element names and table/folder descriptions for ease of use to end users.

  • Updates existing documentation to communicate changes in repository structures, presentation, and source system data.

  • Creates train-the-trainer documentation to explain data, procedures, structures, and related queries.

  • Answers general questions to assist users with Business Intelligence.

  • Contributes to or creates data extracts for select UPS-wide data.

  • Establishes Metrics and Performance Tools: Identifies basic measurement requirements and possible indicators for individual, group, department, and business unit results; demonstrates a general ability to use multiple measurement methods for measuring performance; sets meaningful goals and objectives.

  • Quality Assurance Knowledge: Communicates quality assurance methodology and explains desired outcomes of testing; identifies the steps in the project life cycle.

  • Solicits and Gathers Information: Demonstrates a working knowledge of techniques for soliciting and gathering information; identifies appropriate sources of information.

  • Technology Knowledge: Demonstrates a general understanding of technology used by the company; communicates basic technological concepts and terminology; applies standard technology in daily work.

  • Technical Writing: Uses the appropriate style, level of detail, grammar, and organization of thought in technical writing; drafts standard specialized or technical documents using templates and job aids; considers the end-user’s perspective when creating technical documents.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree (or internationally comparable degree) – Business/Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, Marketing, MIS, Mathematics, or related discipline – Preferred

  • Experience using Microsoft Office products or similar software – Preferred

  • Experience with SQL – Preferred

  • Experience with SQL Server, Oracle, DB2, or similar database applications – Preferred

  • Experience with data warehouse systems – Preferred

  • Experience demonstrating advanced knowledge of database design – Preferred
