UPS Central Planning Supervisor - UPS Freight in Richmond, Virginia
The Central Planning Supervisor utilizes the UPS Freight (UPSF) Transactional equipment and driver fleet to ensure customer needs are met. He/She generates reports to highlight revenue and to reduce empty miles (i.e., equipment moving without carrying shipments) and driver wait time. This position oversees night and weekend shift personnel, identifies and resolves issues and breakdowns in customer service, and interacts with customers to communicate preventative measures action plans. He/She oversees other supervisors within the department.
The Central Planning Supervisor determines employees’ training needs to produce continuous development plans. He/She provides on-going feedback and support to improve performance. This position conducts performance evaluations in a consistent, fair, and objective manner to encourage continuous performance improvement. He/She holds others accountable to established performance levels to achieve individual and group goals. This position resolves individual and group performance issues in accordance with UPS’s policies and procedures in a timely manner to motivate and foster teamwork.
Runs service reports utilizing the UPSF management reporting system to help improve operations not meeting service level targets.
Communicates customer rate increases to ensure UPSF Sales groups have the most up-to-date rate information.
Runs empty mile reports to highlight areas of inefficiency and identify sources for increasing revenue.
Reviews mileage reports to help identify opportunities to increase driver miles and better meet customer needs.
Builds customer relationships to strengthen customer accounts and to increase UPSF revenue.
Evaluates and determines customer needs to acquire additional business and to increase revenue.
Manages customer escalations from TL Load Planners to resolve issues, maintain customer relationships, and prevent churn.
Interacts with UPS and UPSF Solutions and Sales groups to review pricing quotes and to determine business viability.
Communicates with Transactional and Dedicated fleets to ensure customer satisfaction and to generate additional revenue.
Assists with back hauls (i.e., trailer utilization on the return trip) to maximize trailer usage and to generate revenue.
Freight Forwarding Operations Knowledge: Demonstrates a detailed understanding of processes, procedures, and technology for intermodal transportation; identifies root causes of recurring issues within freight forwarding operations; describes the general structure of freight forwarding operations.
Report Generation: Possesses ability to generate simple reports using basic functions in software, and/or writing basic queries; identifies information required to complete reports and identifies existing reports generated by others.
Strategic Customer Partnerships: Establishes and maintains entry level contacts in customer organizations; builds relationships to further understand customers’ business and objectives.
Vendor/Supplier Management: Identifies internal customers’ needs and vendors to meet those needs; determines costs and benefits to UPS for vendors’ products, commodities, or services; creates bid proposals for vendor solicitation; analyzes vendor responses and develops recommendations for award.
