About Applications Development at UPS Technology:

Our Application Development teams use their expertise in programming languages and software design to develop next-generation technology. They are responsible for developing the applications which track and move up to 38 million packages in a single day (4.7 billion annually). About this role:

The Automation and Robotics I.T. Manager will lead the analysis and design of quality technical solutions for robotic and automation solutions for order fulfillment distribution operations. He/She will be involved in full systems life cycle management delivered on time and within budget. This position will lead a team in component and data architecture design, technology planning and testing for commercially available and internally developed fulfillment automation solutions designed to interact with robotics, conveyor control systems and people to facilitate process automation solutions in distribution and back office operations for the 3PL industry. He/She will develop and lead project plans and integrations and will collaborate with teams and support emerging technologies. He/She will be responsible for the work of others, resource allocations and decision-making affecting the success of assigned projects (i.e., results, deadlines and budget). This position will provide consultation, training and subject matter expertise for application' development, maintenance and support. He/She must have a strong background in leading and growing development teams, excellent communications skills, budget planning, experience with designing and developing robotic and automation solutions for order fulfillment and distribution operations and a true influencer.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience with Application Software Development and Implementation methodologies and Agile Project Management Principles

  • Working collaboratively with engineering stakeholders through various stages of project including concept development, prototype testing, engineering design, system build, integration and testing

  • Ability to take ideas from concept to implementation and influence decision making with all stakeholders

  • Ability to develop, integrate and deploy commercially available and internally developed fulfillment automation systems

  • Ability to leverage emerging robotics automation technology and lead overall WMS/WES design and configuration for automation and manual distribution facilities

  • Baseline understanding in the areas of technology ( programming in SQL, Access, Oracle, Pearl, Java, C, C++, .Net and HTML or XML, Firewall, Networking, TCP/IP and major operating systems such as Windows, Unix and Linux, application development and design, and ERP packages)

  • Excellent verbal/written communication, planning, project management, networking and influencing skills

  • Experience leading multiple teams and numerous technology solutions simultaneously

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and/or Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent

  • 5+ years of successful experience in the development and implementation of Robotic Process Automation (RPA) and Warehouse Automation solutions within distribution operations

  • Excellent interpersonal skills that can drive process improvements and work with cross functional teams to resolve problems

  • Experience in creating technical specifications for Automation Systems and Robotic Process Automation solutions

  • Strong vendor management relationship skills to ensure align on technical requirements, scope, schedule and cost

  • Prior experience in work with Cloud/PaaS services
