Job Description:

The Accounting Supervisor manages general accounting functions. He/She prepares reports and statistics reflecting earnings, profits, cash balances, and other financial results. This position formulates and administers approved accounting practices throughout the organization. He/She ensures that financial and operating reports are accurate and reflect the condition of the business. This position manages supervisors.

The Accounting Supervisor organizes functional department structure and work breakdown to maximize productivity and quality results. Along with:

  • Plans annual initiatives to translate high-level organizational goals into business goals for direction, guidance, and process development.

  • Maintains target staffing levels to ensure organizational capability meets internal and external customer demands.

  • Secures necessary resources to complete accounting challenges within time and budget constraints.

  • Maintains cross-functional relationships to exchange pertinent information, achieve business objectives, and ensure business plan implementation.

  • Analyzes accounting processes to increase productivity, reduce costs, and provide prudent financial conclusions.

  • Reviews process improvement recommendations to ensure thorough and efficient accounting services.

  • Formulates and administers accounting practices to ensure accurate and timely business reporting.

  • Reviews the Profit and Loss balance sheet account summaries to develop action plans addressing trends and anomalies.

  • Completes ad hoc projects (e.g., conducts research, documents findings, coordinates management reviews, etc.) to support senior management.

  • Provides accounting projects and issues updates to inform Finance and Accounting management.

  • Supervises and Develops Others

  • Determines employees’ training needs to produce continuous development plans.

  • Provides on-going feedback and support to improve performance.

  • Conducts performance evaluations in a consistent, fair, and objective manner to encourage continuous performance improvement.

  • Holds others accountable to established performance levels to achieve individual and group goals.

  • Resolves individual and group performance issues in accordance with UPS’s policies and procedures in a timely manner to motivate and foster teamwork.

  • Provides Ad Hoc Analyses for Strategic Projects

  • Interviews stakeholders to identify project requirements and develop an approach to conduct the analysis.

  • Gathers and reviews existing data to provide required information to reach project conclusions.

  • Analyzes project data and summarizes and organizes findings to prepare recommendations for the project.

  • Develops presentations to summarize and communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, or similar.

  • Experience applying general accounting theory, principles, and practices as determined by regulatory authorities

  • Experience reading and interpreting financial statements; evaluates data to determine financial patterns, tendencies and trends; develops business cases using financial information.

  • Demonstrated basic knowledge of accounting theory and principles.

  • Demonstrated experience with a broad business and accounting knowledge; ability to describe methods in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

  • Proven experience in a standard GAAP method and help in making recommendations to improve practices or procedures in compliance with GAAP.

  • Evaluates compliance to GAAP methods; applies accounting knowledge to complex or unusual contexts; establishes company accounting controls and procedures; anticipates and addresses the impact of new accounting practices.

Preferences:

  • Supervisory experience: this role will have an immediate direct report.

  • Experience in considering industry and financial trends when making account decisions

  • Understands critical aspects of business models and operating structures to provide input into decisions.

  • In-depth understanding of complex financial data; understands subtle implications in financial and other business data; creates new methods of financial analysis or business models and solutions; applies advanced principles and concepts in developing actions that support or define strategic direction.

  • Experience resolving complex, recurring problems; advises others in improving safety and minimizing company risk; adapts organizational procedures or processes to meet new or changed regulations; provides expertise in legal or regulatory compliance issues; identifies compliance policies and procedures for new work environments.

This role is ONSITE, 5 days a week, Monday through Friday, at our Sandy Springs, Georgia office office; Relocation not available.
