UPS F&A Supervisor in Atlanta, Georgia

The Security Finance and Accounting (F&A) Supervisor manages the daily activities of the Finance and Accounting department in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and UPS policy. He/She assists in the development and support of the staff in the execution of strategies designed to achieve financial objectives. This position manages others within the department.

The Security F&A Supervisor gathers financial data to reflect the operating performance of the company’s business units (i.e., U.S. Domestic Small Package, International Package, Supply Chain Services, Air, and Freight). He/She consolidates financial data into reports for senior management review. This position generates financial reports detailing the company’s operating performance by business unit to be included in monthly Business Plan Review books. The Security F&A Supervisor creates custom queries and formulas to produce requested financial data (e.g., profit plan projections, prior month/year actual results, quarter outlook results, etc.) for senior management.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Conducts annual self-audits to ensure compliance with general accounting practices and internal audit guidelines

  • Responds to inquiries to resolve accounting concerns

  • Verifies allocations with management of each business unit to ensure accuracy of data

  • Identifies and explains variances (i.e., actual versus planned) to inform senior management of company performance

  • Prepares monthly journal entries and reversals to ensure accuracy

  • Runs system job requests to produce consolidated flash statements

  • Determines employees’ training needs to produce continuous development plans

  • Provides on-going feedback and support to improve performance

  • Holds others accountable to established performance levels to achieve individual and group goals

  • Conducts performance evaluations in a consistent, fair, and objective manner to encourage continuous performance improvement

  • Resolves individual and group performance issues in accordance with UPS’s policies and procedures in a timely manner to motivate and foster teamwork

Knowledge and Skills

  • Accounting Knowledge: Demonstrates a broad business and accounting knowledge; describes methods in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

  • Detail Orientation: Distinguishes between “big picture” concepts and comments and specialized, smaller specific facts associated with work; notes the specifics of events and experiences; explains, in general, how details impact end goals or outcomes; ensures that work is completed accurately and with the appropriate level of detail

  • Finance Knowledge: Demonstrates an understanding of basic financial terminology and concepts such as cash flows, operating profit/loss, and net income; conducts financial analyses

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or internationally comparable degree) in Accounting and Finance - Preferred

  • Experience supervising others - Preferred

  • Experience in Accounting - Preferred
