UPS Financial Systems Data Modeler in Atlanta, Georgia

UPS is seeking a dynamic International Finance and Accounting (IFA) Financial Systems Data Modeler to develop and maintain costing applications and related data for the IFA department. He/She researches and resolves SQL code and data issues relating to UPS’s internal accounting systems and provides technical documentation of accounting system components.

The IFA Financial Systems Data Modeler examines and improves cost-modelling systems. He/She tests data values to provide solutions for incorrect processes. The IFA Financial Systems Data Modeler creates queries for data values to ensure proper design, maintenance, and functionality of database values. He/She researches data issues and provides feedback to internal customers. This position works with systems developers to validate business solutions.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Analyzes issue logs against existing code to resolve current coding issues

  • Analyzes and summarizes data in order to offer insight to upper level management

  • Writes new SQL coding practices to meet departmental objectives

  • Researches scope of coding issues to determine root causes

  • Documents coding solutions to ensure correct implementation of the coding process

  • Gathers and analyzes data to resolve data log (i.e. Tracker) problems

  • Writes Standard Query Language (SQL) scripts to implement data changes to tracking log

  • Analyzes SQL database objects to maintain optimum functionality of the databases

  • Solves system problems by identifying and applying resolutions to ensure proper system operations

  • Analyzes system issues to suggest new system processes

  • Executes system tests to ensure system issues are resolved

Knowledge and Skills

  • Demonstrates basic knowledge of accounting theory and principles

  • Demonstrates basic knowledge of database design principles; identifies users’ requirements and needs with guidance from others; demonstrates a basic understanding of the importance of maintaining and updating databases

  • Distinguishes between “big picture” concepts and comments and specialized, smaller specific facts associated with work; notes the specifics of events and experiences; explains, in general, how details impact end goals or outcomes; ensures that work is completed accurately and with the appropriate level of detail

  • Recognizes the basic impact of technology on UPS business, services, and processes; identifies technological barriers in achieving desired objectives; maintains appropriate breadth and depth of technological knowledge for current work assignment

  • Ability to analyze large data sets
