UPS IE Training and Development Supervisor in Atlanta, Georgia

The Training and Development Section Supervisor is responsible for developing e-learning and other training materials for UPS Global Business Services. He/She analyzes data to determine the skills needed to increase retention and productivity. The Training and Development Section Supervisor works with key stakeholders to identify specific training needs for GBS learners. In addition, he/she manages project lifecycles, including project scope, resources, schedule, initiation, start-up/design, building, and deployment to see projects from beginning-to-end.

The Training and Development Section Supervisor designs training outlines (i.e., storyboards) for e-Learning to determine resources (e.g., web-based programs, animation, etc.) for disseminating content and designs and implements communication plans to ensure those affected by projects are informed and updated. The Training and Development Section Supervisor is responsible for directing the work assignments of instructional designers (contractors) to ensure objectives are achieved. In addition, he/she maintains skill curricula and assessments to ensure they are current.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Analyzes data to determine training deficiencies and identifies skill sets that need improvement

  • Develops project plans (i.e., detailed plan, milestones, and work breakdown structures) and assigns tasks to resources to ensure that the project will be completed on time and according to specifications

  • Defines training requirements for GBS functional towers (e.g., Customer, Finance and Accounting, etc.) to promote consistent assessments of knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Reviews project update information to identify significant activities to be incorporated in overall status updates for staff management

  • Collaborates with Training and Development Staff Manager to drive training transformation

  • Balances multiple projects and deployment schedules to meet stakeholder goals and expectations

Knowledge and Skills

  • Instructional Design Knowledge: Applies knowledge of adult learning theory and instructional design to the creation of instructional materials; evaluates existing analysis to identify learning gaps and provide recommendations; assists in the alignment of training to business outcomes; demonstrates ability to identify implementation gaps and provide suggestions for improvement; identifies appropriate measurement to assess learning

  • Project Management: Develops project management plans and leads the implementation for basic projects of short duration requiring limited coordination and resources; supports initiatives with well-defined project needs and cross-functional roles/responsibilities throughout the project life cycle; manages minimal organizational resistance to cross-functional project demands; employs project management tools and technology (e.g., Microsoft Project, Program Management Group website, etc.) appropriately

  • Contact Center Operations Knowledge: Demonstrates a complex knowledge of contact centers; considers the impact of contact centers on other parts of the business; develops solutions to improve operations

  • Technical Writing: Uses the appropriate style, level of detail, grammar, and organization of thought in technical writing; drafts standard specialized or technical documents using templates and job aids; considers the end-user’s perspective when creating technical documents
