UPS Air Gateways / Service Center Manager in Forest Park, Georgia

UPS is seeking an Air Gateways/Service Center Manager to support the global movement of air freight in accordance with UPS standards and in compliance with governmental regulations. He/She oversees daily Air Gateways and Service Center operations ensuring superior service, consistent performance, and innovative logistic solutions. The Air Gateways/Service Center Manager monitors the departmental budget and actively seeks cost-efficient solutions to reduce operating expenses. He/She is responsible for assuring maximum efficiency and utilization of the carrier base to reduce air transportation costs and improve margins for UPS. Responsibilities and Duties

  • Promotes operational efficiency by collaborating with internal groups (e.g., Cartage Services, etc.) to gain insight on how to successfully ship cargo in the most cost-efficient manner

  • Interfaces with internal support (e.g., Air Gateway and Service Center Managers and Supervisors to implement service procedures and expedite cargo in a timely manner

  • Reports essential financial and operational information to senior management to participate in the development of long-range operational plans and business initiatives

  • Provides a safe working environment with training programs designed to enhance employee safety awareness and minimize workplace injuries

  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams (e.g., UPS Customer Solutions, etc.) to proactively identify innovative logistic solutions enhancing service quality, productivity, and profitability for potential and existing customers

  • Facilitates regular carrier audits to review performance and develop solutions for chronic issues (e.g., delayed shipments, damaged freight, etc.) that affect service quality

  • Manages resources and people processes (e.g., Performance Management, Career Development, Training, Staffing, etc.) to ensure the day to day administration of processes and formal procedures

  • Ensures that direct and indirect reports have documented career goals and detailed plans for achieving these goals to develop them personally and professionally

Knowledge and Skills

  • Tracks expenditures against financial targets; describes impact of area’s budget on organizational financial plan

  • Considers industry and financial trends when making account decisions; understands critical aspects of business models and operating structures to provide input into decisions

  • Demonstrates a complex knowledge of intermodal transportation; considers the impact of freight forwarding operations on other parts of the business; develops solutions to improve freight forwarding operations

  • Responds to compliance problems and identifies appropriate actions; identifies people needed to resolve compliance problems and collaborates to develop corrective action plans; identifies programs that reduce risk and enhance safety; explains implications to changing laws and regulations
