UPS Engineering Specialist (Entry-Level) in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania

Job Title: Building and Systems Engineering Specialist

Department: Building and Systems Engineering (BaSE) - Air Park/Worldport, 911 Grade Lane, Louisville, KY 40213

Days: Days vary on positions Hours: Hours based on position (24/7 facility coverage) Hours per Week: 40

Work Environment: Work environment is divided between the office and the field/operation area.

Job Description: The BaSE Specialist is an entry level position within the UPS Building and Systems Engineering department. The BaSE Specialist will troubleshoot, calibrate and adjust plant floor devices as necessary to maintain optimal performance of plant floor equipment. Will also direct sort calls and breakdowns and expedites their completion. Responsible for providing information to maintenance mechanics on how to complete required repairs to resolve breakdown situations. Monitoring of Critical Systems for facility and scheduling of routine and emergency maintenance of power systems, fire systems, HVAC and plumbing. Will assist in solving the daily problems inherent in keeping the conveyors or physical facility in good working order; thus, providing a smooth operation of the Worldport facility. Position allows the ability to gain engineering and operations experience. This role will provide continuous career development based on the needs of the employee and the company.

Activities performed include but are not limited to responding to internal customer requests, responding to facility alarms and emergencies and troubleshooting problems that arise. This position is part of a team that provides 24x7 coverage, including possible holidays and weekends.

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor degree in engineering or possess a four-year technical degree – Preferred.

  • Experience and proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, electrical schematics and elementary diagrams.

Preferred Skills:

  • PLC or related programming experience including troubleshooting.

  • Basic understanding of networks.

  • Motor control theory and operation including basic AC and DC electrical troubleshooting.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and elementary diagrams.

Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with all employee groups including all levels of the management team. Must have good written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to speak to large groups of employees.
