UPS End User Development Project Supv in Louisville, Kentucky

The Corporate IE – Transportation Technology End User Development Supervisor plans, designs, develops, maintains, and supports web based application solutions. He/She serves in a project leadership role as the liaison between end users and developers. This position works with end users to review intranet development requests (IDR), module requirements, testing, training, and deployment of web based modules. The End User Development Supervisor supervises Web Developers and Senior Web Developers. This position can work in a virtual location.

The End User Development Supervisor evaluates development requests to determine feasibility. He/She confers with requesters to determine application requirements. This position assigns and monitors projects to ensure even distribution of workload and track progress to meet timelines. The End User Development Supervisor guides development activities to assist developers with data access and system design issues while ensuring development standards are met. He/She responds to ad hoc requests to determine equipment and application needs.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Conducts regular communication sessions with IS support functions to assist with problem resolution and future planning

  • Facilitates meetings with end users and developers to ensure projects meet users’ expectations

  • Holds others accountable to established performance levels to achieve individual and group goals

  • Monitors server software to ensure proper system functionality

  • Participates in the evaluation of new development platforms and tools and makes recommendations to ensure platforms and tools are adequate

  • Conducts end user training to ensure proper use of the application

Knowledge and Skills

  • Applies Database Knowledge: Demonstrates basic knowledge of database design principles; identifies users’ requirements and needs with guidance from others; demonstrates a basic understanding of the importance of maintaining and updating databases

  • Conducts Customer Analysis: Demonstrates some advanced knowledge of how to conduct customer analysis using common sources of information to identify customer facts and trends; collects standard research data about current and prospective customers with some guidance; identifies and develops lists of prospective customers; assists with identifying instances where customer needs or expectations are not being met; drafts promotions of products, services, and features based upon research with oversight from others

  • Develops Data Standards: Follows standard guidelines to update existing standards; provides input into developing data standards with some assistance from others; reviews customer data to ensure consistent and widespread use of data standards

  • Incident Investigation: Applies established procedures for responding to incidents; determines and documents information pertinent to incidents; communicates resolutions or results to stakeholders

  • Project Management: Develops project management plans and leads the implementation for basic projects of short duration requiring limited coordination and resources; supports initiatives with well-defined project needs and cross-functional roles/responsibilities throughout the project life cycle; manages minimal organizational resistance to cross-functional project demands; employs project management tools and technology (e.g., Microsoft Project, Program Management Group website, etc.) appropriately

  • Solicits and Gathers Information: Uses in-depth techniques to uncover new information or details that are not readily available; selects techniques and strategies that are appropriate for the audience; chooses techniques that result in more accurate and thorough information; implements strategies that minimize biases and preconceived ideas

  • Technology Implementation: Modifies or adjusts logistics, schedule, rollout plans, or support material; identifies and communicates routine implementation issues and plans; uses existing plans to implement technology solutions

  • Technology Knowledge: Recognizes the basic impact of technology on UPS business, services, and processes; identifies technological barriers in achieving desired objectives; maintains appropriate breadth and depth of technological knowledge for current work assignment
