UPS Public Relations Supervisor in San Diego, California

The UPS Store, Inc. Public Relations Supervisor assists the Public Relations and Social Media Manager with planning and executing effective, measurable public relations and social media strategies to support companywide projects and initiatives including media relations, crisis communication, issues management, organizing key promotions/activations and providing timely PR and social media support. This role will serve as a company spokesperson and will have interaction with senior executives, so the ability to work independently and with authority is needed. He/She works directly with the company’s PR agency as well as the company’s social media agency to ensure initiatives, campaigns and day-to-day duties stay on target. This position also holds the duties of the Public Relations and Social Media Manager when he/she is unavailable.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Helps determine public relations campaigns and opportunities (e.g., reactive, proactive, limited or full disclosure) to maintain The UPS Store’s positive public image

  • Works with PR agencies to create short-term PR plans that incorporate business, cultural and media practices to advance The UPS Store’s reputation and help the media understand The UPS Store’s position

  • Ensures coordination between functions, on a fast-track basis, to respond to news media under tight deadlines to maintain continuity of message

  • Assess brand sentiment and provides recommendations for PR activities to boost brand awareness and affinity on a local, regional and national level

  • Monitors the development and execution of innovative PR and social media plans across The UPS Store network while also monitoring the latest activities and trends across the industry

  • Coordinates efforts of agency members and cross-functional teams to ensure successful project completion by assigning tasks, monitoring work flow, providing constructive feedback and measuring results

  • Monitors agency and team progress on assigned tasks to ensure project schedules are maintained

  • Works with the franchise network to determine scope, messaging, audience and timing for PR-related activities

  • Communicates with key project stakeholders regularly to provide updates on project status

  • Provides crisis communication support across the franchise network, working closely with company staff, UPS PR and media, as needed

  • Leads cross-functional teams in support of PR and social media campaigns

  • Performs editorial and creative reviews of PR and social media content to ensure deliverables meet The UPS Store brand and style guidelines, as well as defined objectives

  • Assists in the development of annual PR and social media plans that align with the marketing strategy, budget and goals

  • Writes, edits and distributes external communications including press releases, talking points, blog posts, social content, executive thought leadership editorials, case studies, etc.

  • Works collaboratively with The UPS Store Franchise Sales team to support search engine reputation management and sales objectives

  • Helps oversee the company’s cause marketing program

  • Oversees the creation, editing and posting of content across nearly 5,000 The UPS Store Facebook pages

  • Develops PR and social media training tools for the franchise network and presents material during network meetings, conferences, webinars, etc.

  • Creates surveys that evaluate project success and gauge audience satisfaction

Knowledge and Skills

  • Understands retail, franchising and products/services offered by The UPS Store

  • Identifies cultural issues that may impact business needs or customer solutions

  • Executes public relations strategies, including experience with crisis communications

  • Develops social media and web content for a brand/business, pressroom posts and media kits

  • Writes press releases, case studies, fact sheets, talking points, blogs, social media content, executive thought leadership editorials, backgrounders, Question and Answer (Q&A’s) and position papers

  • Possesses experience in a PR agency, corporate in-house PR function or in a PR function for a Fortune 500 company
