Job Summary

The UPS Store, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of UPS is the world's largest franchisor of retail shipping, postal, printing and business service centers. The UPS Store® has over 4,900 independently owned locations in the U.S., Puerto Rico and Canada.

The TUPSS Area Development Supervisor generates revenue growth for The UPS Store with new store sales and transfers of existing stores to new and existing franchisees. The incumbent actively seeks sales leads and opportunities and maintains relationships with existing franchise owners in the specific sales territory they are assigned. This position completes the processing and ensures the funding of applicants for potential franchisees. The Area Development Supervisor is responsible for the processing and funding of applicants for a potential franchise opportunity and the completion of transaction, resulting in the awarding of a franchise.


  • Follows up on franchise sales leads generated through the franchise sales call center for the assigned territory to identify opportunities and creates a strategy

  • Engages all applicants with an introductory phone call or personal visit to discuss The UPS Store® franchise opportunities in their area

  • Interviews and qualifies potential applicants interested in a franchise opportunity to prepare applicants for the selection process

  • Provides prospective franchise applicants with the required legal franchise offering disclosure to ensure they are fully informed

  • Develops and distributes a monthly sales status report to present a complete account of the sales activity in the assigned territories

  • Attends network meetings and conventions with existing franchisees to communicate opportunities to purchase additional centers in their area

  • Communicates and coordinates with existing The UPS Store® franchisees who wish to sell their center to complete the required sales agreement

  • Coordinates with the Marketing and Sales departments to support all facets of lead generation (including seminars, business and trade shows, and site specific real estate marketing)

  • Communicates new specific real estate opportunities to the Real Estate Development department to coordinate site approvals and site evaluation packages


  • Understands products, services, and customer facing technology solutions offered by UPS along with their features and business applications; describes general customer profiles targeted by the company

  • Demonstrates understanding of industry and financial trends impacting, UPS and/or customers’ organizations; identifies the organizational structure and functions within a business

  • Understands competitor’s tactics, product/service offerings, and strategies; translates competitor performance and actions into implications for UPS

  • Works with others to research stakeholders' and key decision-makers' needs, requirements, and perspectives; describes customer characteristics, preferences, history, processes and constraints

  • Understands customer’s general business needs and knows the account status; may provide information about accounts for use in planning account strategy

  • Possesses ability to use negotiation techniques in less complex situations; recognizes the potential impact of negotiation proceedings on the business; gains consensus from involved parties

  • Recognizes when customers are having issues; identifies resolution to basic customer issues and recommends solutions

  • Establishes and maintains entry level contacts in customer organizations; builds relationships to further understand customers’ business and objectives

  • Demonstrates a basic understanding of supply chain concepts; identifies issues within a supply chain

  • Knowledge of Franchise disclosure and process

  • Possesses knowledge and experience with Franchise/Franchisor relationships

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the Federal Trade Commission’s Rules and Regulations that pertain to franchises

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or internationally comparable degree) in business or related field

  • Experience using Microsoft Office products
